Help wanted: Robinhood crypto-accomplice

The Bit

A job posting for a Crypto Engineer revealed plans Robinhood has to expand the capabilities of their cryptocurrency investment service.

The Bigger Picture

As is, using Robinhood to invest in cryptocurrencies is exactly that. Users do not actually own the coins, or have any type of “wallet” to use them as currencies. The job posting describes requirements for adding additional coins and creating a cryptocurrency wallet, which would allow investors to transfer coins they own already onto the Robinhood platform. Users would otherwise have to sell their coins for fiat and repurchase. This positions Robinhood to compete with Coinbase.

Facebook will let crypto back in the ad mix

The Bit

Facebook will be revamping their January advertisement policy that banned all cryptocurrency related promotions.

The Bigger Picture

The press release defines that the new policy will allow “cryptocurrency and related content from pre-approved advertisers,” but will continue blocking “binary options and initial coin offerings.” Those looking to place ads will have to submit an application with information regarding any licenses they have obtained, whether they are traded on a public stock exchange, and other relevant public background on their business. Will it be worth it?… lol let’s be honest. Yeah.

Let’s air our nerdy laundry here

The Bit

So maybe you’ve seen something on Twitter about “21E800” and a Bitcoin hash and probabilities percentages so big there’s letters in them…

The Bigger Picture

It got to the point people were conspiracy theorizing that Satoshi Nakamoto is actually from the future and uses quantum computing to write messages into the Bitcoin network. Luckily someone level headed brought the realness. So, here’s a simple theory on how you can take this one in. Time travel – nah, but who doesn’t like sci-fi sometimes? Messages – nah, but the concept of Satoshi is taking on prophet levels, we all need something to believe in right? Coincidence that 21E800 relates to a pretty cool physics paper titled “An Exceptionally Simple Theory of Everything” – definitely, but who’s going to take the time to read all that?

“I think the fact that within the Bitcoin universe an algorithm replaces the functions of [the government]… is actually pretty cool. I am a big fan of Bitcoin.” – Al Gore
